2023 has been a blur for many; for us, it has been a fun and adventurous ride. From purchasing and taking over our Christmas website, OpenForChristmas.com, to launching a weekly Christmas-themed newsletter, to finding our true voice on our social platforms to spread cheer all year long.

We wanted to THANK you all for your support over the last six months and look forward to continuing to bring awesome content to you weekly!

Now on to the newsletter and the FREE Printable!

🤷 What To Do Now?!

Now that the Christmas season has officially come and gone most of us have two questions on our minds:

When should I take down my decorations?

What am I going to do with all of them?

Well, we are here to help, and let’s start with when to take down all of the holiday cheer that took us weeks (or months) to set up.

There is no real answer to the question, but being the last person on the street with decorations up can get you labeled as the tacky neighbor and no one wants that.

So what’s the right answer?

Well, there are a few different answers to this question, but many consider January 6th as the official day to the Christmas season.

Why?

Because January 6th is known as the Epiphany, and marks the arrival of the three Wise Men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus.

If you want an official survey to tell you what the thoughts of the community are, then you can check out the “Deck the Halls” report from 2020 where 1,101 people were surveyed.

The results:
51% stated that January 2nd was the best day to remove decorations. 31% labeled January 15th as the end date, while 33% named February 1st as the day to take it all down.

9% said to leave it up all year but we don’t recommend that!

🫙 Let’s Talk About Storage

One of the most important things to do when it finally does come time to take down your decorations is to store them safely and neatly in a place that will make your life easier next year.

While it’s easy to just grab your decorations, stuff them in a box, and hurl them into the attic until next November, this can also lead to frustration and extra expenses when the next holiday season rolls around.

Here are some tips that can help!

Create A Comprehensive List of Decorations

This takes a bit of time but we have helped you out and created this FREE template to track every single piece of decor that you own. We like to separate the lists by room, and then store them the same way. The living room goes in a certain box (or series), same with the tree, kitchen, etc. You get the point!

Label Your Boxes

Boxes can be great storage containers. That is until you have no clue what is inside of them! That’s why labeling your boxes by room, number, or even by decor type/theme is one of the best ways that we have found to keep our decorations organized.

Create A Wrapping Center

Wrapping paper and accessories are some of the holiday items that tend to be used throughout the entire year. While you may not use the same paper or tags, tools like scissors, tape, ribbon, and even bags may be useful when it comes to birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions. Creating a wrapping center that includes all of these can be an easy and useful way to stay organized. You can check out a few we recommend here.

Review Your Likes/Dislikes

Reviewing your holiday decor can be a fun and insightful experience when it comes to wrapping (pun intended) up your year. What did you or visitors love about your setup? What didn’t work as planned? What did you want to do but just didn’t have the time? These can give you an idea for what decor you need for next year and set you up for an even better festive theme next year!
